Say Hello to: Elle from Living in Color

Happy Monday Everyone! Hope you had a nice weekend. I'm super excited for my first interview here on BCFG. I love hearing other people's take on fashion and getting inspired from their unique ideas. As much as I'm absolutely in love with New York and the style and fashion, I've always been inspired by the colorful, laid back but still chic west coast style. Which brings me to this post - an interview with blogger Elle from Living in Color I adore Elle's colorful style and wanted to get to know a little bit more about her and what inspires her wardrobe and her blog.

So everyone, say hello to Elle....

Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Current Residence: the Midwest-relocating in a month!

How would you describe your style?
Eclectic with a strong bias toward girly, bohemian glamour. My blog reflects the outfits I choose to wear for work, play, and everything in between.

What’s your favorite part of blogging? Any new self-discoveries since you started blogging?
My favorite part of blogging is the community, and the opportunity that comes with it. I’ve met so many fascinating people in the last seven months, and I cannot wait for the opportunities that await me in the future. I think the biggest discovery I’ve made about myself is that I don’t want to be that blogger who spends ridiculous amounts of money on a brand new, designer-based wardrobe. From the beginning, I have enjoyed incorporating investment pieces with thrifted items and other cheap finds.

Who/what inspires your wardrobe?
I adore Audrey Hepburn. The big hats, long gloves, and up-do's are something I feel like our generation fort of missed out on. However, I was able to have my own little flash to the past! I recently had my bridal shower, and my family and friends used a Breakfast At Tiffany's theme. However, I'm inspired by Jenna Lyons for her quirkiness, Olivia Palermo for her classiness, and Ashley Olsen for her stylish simplicity.

What are your current favorite trends?
I'm adoring peplum right now, as well as the colored denim trend.

When you’re not blogging, what do you do in your free time?
When I do have the time, I love reading, spending time with my puppy, Toby, and watching films with my fiancĂ©. Movies are make up 85% of our date nights! I'm lucky to have someone who shares the same taste as I do. We are currently planning our June wedding and preparing for a big move, so that takes up a lot of free time :)

What’s something interesting about you that we don’t know from your blog?
This is a great question, Dana! Something others may not know about me is that I am an advocate for public education. It is my life's goal and career aspiration to become an education reformer. Basically, I want to improve the quality of schooling that we provide for the children in our country regardless of socioeconomic status. I believe there is something called the achievement gap, and it is my hope to reduce it (in my own individual way for right now) Then, hopefully become a political activist and advocate in the future. In about a month I am going to pursue my Masters in Education while teaching full-time beginning this Fall!

What’s the best part about being a California girl?
The best part, for me, about being an SoCal girl is that I can drive about an hour in each direction and arrive somewhere with completely different activities, culture, and climate. For instance, San Diego is a lot different from L.A. as is the mountain towns that are north of where I live. I can choose to spend a weekend in the snow and go skiing, yet the same day I can lay out by the beach in L.A. I'd say we're pretty fortunate. (I've had a lot of withdrawals and appreciation for my time there especially since I've been in the Midwest for the past four years… it's COLD here!) I'm ready to move back West ;)

Fun Facts about Elle!
I rarely leave home withoutmy lovely white iPhone and it’s darling leopard J.Crew case.
The most favorite place I’ve been is – Hawaii, it was like heaven! However, I haven't been to Paris yet, so we'll see!
Fashion or comfort?  It’s a constant battle, especially since I currently teach preschool part-time, but I'll have to go with fashion!
My wardrobe staple piece is currently denim everything. It's a problem… haha.
I’m happiest when - I'm engaging in an interesting conversation where I either learn something new, or I'm challenged to critically think about it. (Weird? I know, but it's the truth!)

Thanks again, Dana, for featuring me on your blog! Can't wait to feature Big City Farm Girl on my blog! If you'd like, stop by and say hello, everyone! xo, elle.

Thank you Elle for taking the time to answer all my questions and giving me an inside peak to life as a SoCal girl! I'm loving her style - what do you guys think?
